Thanks Derek, it's good to be back in action but the weight I've managed to put on during my enforced running break is making everything feel harder than it used to. I receive at least 10-15 press releases each week, the majority aren't relevant and could be the subject of one of my 'rants' but I always try to remember to share the press releases I think are interesting. If I ever find myself running for longer than an hour - this feels quite unlikely at the moment - I'm going to see if listening to music helps. Those apps sound far too sophisticated for me.

Great to see you back in action Emma - enjoyed your earlier Rants and Raves (and started to follow the Instagram account you mentioned!).. Thank you for highlighting this interesting piece of research. I have heard anecdotally that listening to fast tempo music can impact on your driving speed, so the links are not surprising. I tend to listen to music if I'm doing a long run over 90 minutes or so. Otherwise I like to remain in tune with my body, the environment (I too mostly run outside in nature) and my thoughts. You can get apps that adapt/choose your music to match your own tempo while running - I'm not that sophisticated!
