So this happened…

On Saturday afternoon I got to dress up in full academic dress…

Graduation

For once I actually managed to smile (or was I just relieved that I had made it onto the stage without falling over?). I can confirm that I was the only student wearing (smart) trainers.

Now that the PhD is complete and I am no longer a research student, I am considering changing the name of this blog. Ideas have included ‘The Brummie Runner’ (this could possibly get confused with the Birmingham Runner shop) and ‘The Tall Runner’ (at 5ft 11.5″ I am pretty tall).

On Sunday I was meant to complete a 15-mile run around Four Oaks. My foot was sore after spending the day walking around London so I was sensible (or possibly lazy) and didn’t run.

I have told myself that it is fine to miss the occasional training session. Last weekend my PhD graduation ceremony took priority, this weekend running will be number one.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a new name for my blog?

Do you feel guilty when ‘life’ gets in the way of training?

Congratulations! You must be so proud of yourself. I say go brummie runner- it rolls off the tongue well. Tall Runner I think must surely exist elsewhere?

Thanks Fiona! I wouldn’t say proud, more relieved that it’s finally all over. At the moment it’s 5 votes for The Brummie Runner.

Thanks. It’s definitely a photograph that I’ll print out and frame at some point. The Brummie Runner seems to be the most popular choice.

Wow! What a moment! Must be nice to have it on camera. Congratulations!
Also, I wouldn’t worry about life getting in the way of training. Better than thinking that training gets in the way of your life!
As for a name. I’m not enamored of the “Tall Runner” name. Brummie Runner sounds fun.

Thanks for the lovely comment, the whole graduation ceremony is also captured on DVD somewhere! I think I’ll definitely just stick with the photograph! I completed the 15 mile training run on Wednesday so I got it done in the end. If I do change the name of my blog it be to the Brummie Runner.

Congratulations! What an amazing achievement. You must feel like a weight’s been lifted? Brummie Runner gets my vote too 😀

Thanks Autumn! I feel really relieved that it’s all over. I hate being in the limelight and I’ve found all of my graduation ceremonies quite nerve-wracking. The night before I dreamt that I fell over on the stage! If I can work out how to change the name of my blog (it looks quite difficult) I will definitely change it to the Brummie Runner.
